2. Survey of Leadership Practices

The SLP is for the manager who must also provide leadership for the organization. It helps middle and senior executives, project managers, and technical and professional people who must build support for their innovations. Where management skills help to achieve operating goals, leaders need the skills and personal attributes that will move the organization toward positive change.

The phases and dimensions in the Leadership Task Cycle are grouped into three major competencies that are central to leadership: Structure, Personal Relations, and Drive. An appropriate balance of skills in all three competencies makes for effective leadership.

They also have a major responsibility for maintaining the organization’s quality of working life.

The Survey of Management Practices measures the manager’s ability to set goals, plan, problem solve and provide feedback. A separate section, Interpersonal Relations, presents data on the manager’s working relationships. The last forty-five questions of the SMP are the Survey of Group Motivation and Morale.
